Share the Universes

Wednesday, August 26th, 2009

I came upon an interesting BBC interview with Michio Kaku. If you don’t know of Mr. Kuku, he is an American theoretical physicist specializing in string field theory, and a futurist.

Here is the interview.

For those of you who don’t know I’m fascinated by quantum physics. I like to blend science with spirituality, seems like an odd mix but both have always been a big part of my inner word. My work reflects both the physical and metaphysical aspects, such as in the case of the Minoan Chronicles.

I live near the Perimeter Institute. Never heard of the place?

I can’t waiting until I return to my more Sci-Fi based works. I’m going to be sitting in on many a sessions coming up with the next set of story lines.

TORN, relates to dimensions and characters able to shift between.

RETURN TO THE THRONE, which takes place between two universes with interesting alien species.

TAINTED SHEEP, a bleak human future with an assassination attempt hanging by a thread.

Hence, many of the reasons why I don’t blog much I’ve got a lot of writing to do with only a twenty-four hours in any given day.

I’d better get back to work.

RWA 2009 Conference more on the aftermath

Monday, August 24th, 2009

This weekend I took some time to search the web for storyboards. I’ve worked in TV before so I’m familiar with them but I want something simple that will work for me. I didn’t find one.

I want a template that has the following things.

A number of bigger boxes each that will represent a scene and will have a smaller box in the upper left hand corner for the scene number.

Scene

Point of view:

Who is in the scene:

 Location:

            Time line:

            Date:

            Time of day:

Main plot: (Info revealed. Character development.)

         Tension drivers:

Secondary plot(s): (Info revealed. Character development.)

Series:

            Plot: (Info revealed. Character development.)

            Character(s):

I figured I’d turn creating what I need into a blog entry. I’m going to use this to work on the outline of my next plot. I’m going to start with something small to get my feet wet. CHOCOLATE DAMSEL is a 14,000-word short that I wrote over two weeks in the spring. I have a sequel in mind called CHOCOLATE TEMPTATION.

I’ll keep you in the loop about how this is working for me. I’m going to try to upload a word document for download in case you might find my storyboard template useful. Once I do, I’ll add the pointer here:storyboard-scene-box

Odd for me to be blogging my own site on Monday but today on Nights of Passion you can read and maybe win an autographed copy of Gothic Victorian Romance Author Leanna Renee Hieber book THE STRANGELY BEAUTIFUL TALE OF MISS PERCY PARKER

RWA the aftermath!

Wednesday, August 19th, 2009

Over the next, while I’ll try to share with you what I’m doing different based on what I learned at the RWA conference.

The first thing I’m doing different is:

I’m plotting in advance more. I can’t say that I’m doing well in this area yet but I’m spending time in what I call preproduction figuring out how the novel is going to come together.

Why have I done this?

I’m hoping it will reduce my rewrites. Part of me knows this is wishful thinking because I’m a firm believer in rewriting right up until the you send back the source file the editor gets.

This probably makes me a horrible person but it isn’t over until the Chief Editor sings in my humble opinion.

How’s that (plotting / planning) working for me?

It’s helping me plot the next books in the series I’m working on. At this point I don ‘t feel my creative process is hindered but I’m currently in an edit and critique mode. Not so much writing new material.

I have the concepts behind two new series one is a Dark Fantasy called KINGDOM, which I’m considering six volumes to.

The other is a two book superhero style novels the first KNIGHT RAVEN and the second KNIGHT SHADOW.

Two movies that have influenced me

Thursday, August 13th, 2009

After dismal, weather we are finally getting some sun and warmth here. Oh, where is here? I’m about two hours north of the the Niagara Falls. One of the most popular wedding spots in the world. But I like to go there for the history. How typical of me. I can be found time-to-time when family comes to visit taking them to the falls and sending them on a boat ride. I don’t do boats. That’s right, I was born on an island, on the east coast of Canada, but I get very seasick. What can I say, it’s just another odd fact about me.

Just because I’m in a strange happy mood today, I’m going to share two movies that have influenced me. This may explain a lot.

Scanners (1981)
Genre: Horror | Sci-Fi | Thriller
Written and directed by David Cronenberg

I might have been as young as seven or eight when I first saw the movie. The really horrible part for me was I had to wait until 1991 for the next installments in the series came out. Scanner Cop came out in 1994. Davied I can’t believe you made me wait that long to see the follow movies.

The Birds (1963)

Genre: Horror | Romance | Thriller
Directed: Alfred Hitchcock
Writers: Daphne Du Maurier (story) and Evan Hunter (screenplay)

The idea that nature was going to turn against us was awesome to a young mind. Maybe, I was scared into environmentalism.

I guess I’m a product of what I love to watch. I’m a fan of both the directors’ work. They have many more great movies.

I hope my books bring a mix of Horror or Dark Paranormal or Sci-Fi with a Thriller aspect and some hot romance elements.

What’s your favorite sexy horror movie or book?
